The second punk ever burned, 7755, was purchased the previous day for 5.49 ETH by well known anon collector 0xb1 with the expressed intention of burning it. This was the lowest priced Cryptopunk available at the time. After burning it they sent out a tweet with the etherscan transaction and stated “1 punk down.... 9997 punks to go....” however no further punks were burned by this account and it’s unclear if there was a larger concept here that was simply abandoned or if this was meant to encourage other to burn punks as well.

At the time there was question over the the stated number of remaining punks, as only one other had previously been burned so technically there were 9998 remaining. This is likely attributed to a misunderstanding that the 10,000 Cryptopunks are numbered 0-9999 not 1-10,000.
